I haven't watched anime since I was like nine years old and I kind of want to get back into it and was wondering where to start.

Detective Conan (crime investigation anime)
Inuyasha (i even have two movies. I think that says how much i think this is good.)
Lupin the IIIrd (Thief anime, kind of)
Soul Eater (Can't find a fitting genre. It's good though.)
"Girl animes" that i personally like:
Nodame Cantabile (Funny love story with good orchestral music, and pretty good season 1.)
Lovely Complex (I probably only like this one because it reminds me of my sister's first relationship. I still recommend it if you want to see a good "I can't live with you, nor without you" relationship, that isn't about the drama and focuses on the humor.)
Other good animes that i didn't like a t first:
Death Note (same as Conan, with not so childish art design, and your favorite character dies. I won't spoil who.)
Honey and Clover (Too much parody of other animes to don't like it. I don't even know what it's story is.)
any Digimon
Naruto (obvious choice)
Bleach (same as Naruto)

Well I for one, watch Azumanga Daioh, which is a comedy. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and Elfen Lied are two really weird but good ones. Fairy tail is a good one also.  |

If you like samurai and what not you could try one of my childhood favorites Rurouni Kenshin. It has an interesting story wonderful characters and some enjoyable sword fights. Cowboy Bebop is another late 90's classic that I think you might enjoy.

Truth be told I really haven't watched that many anime other than the ones I mentioned above, and more mainstream choices like DBZ, and Naruto.

I just watched Berserk, and it is really good its just a shame it didn't last longer than 25 episodes.
